Licensed UAE tour operator — fully compliant with Dubai Tourism regulations
The Red Dune Desert Safari Dubai is a daily shared evening tour into the Lahbab red sand desert, about 45 minutes from the city. You get dune bashing, a camel ride, sandboarding, a full BBQ dinner, and live entertainment — all for AED 180 per person, hotel pickup included. Lahbab is home to some of the among the tallest in the UAE, reaching around 100 metres.
Most desert safaris in Dubai run one of two ways: a quick afternoon dune-bash with no real camp experience, or a private tour priced for a small group. This one sits in between — a full evening out, shared with other travelers, at a fraction of the private price. It's why the evening version of this tour outsells the morning option by a wide margin: you get the dune bashing in daylight, then watch the sun drop behind the dunes before the camp portion even starts, and you're not paying for a vehicle nobody else is using.
You'll share a 4×4 Toyota Land Cruiser with other guests, up to six per vehicle, driven by a licensed safari driver. Pickup runs 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM from your hotel or residence in Dubai or Sharjah. Plan on six hours, door to door — that's pickup, the drive out to the red dunes, the dune bashing session, sunset, camp, dinner, the show, and the drive back.
If a shared vehicle isn't for you — say you want the vechile to yourselves, or you're traveling with a larger group — the Private Desert Safari Dubai runs the same route with an exclusive 4×4. Worth a look if budget allows.
Lahbab sits near Al Lisaili, around 45 km southeast of Dubai. It's not the same desert you see from the highway near the city, where the dunes are mostly golden. The sand here contains natural iron minerals, giving it a rich red color that becomes even more striking during the golden hour before sunset. That's one of the main reasons photographers, adventure seekers, and tour operators choose Lahbab over closer desert locations—it offers bigger dunes, better scenery, and a more exciting off-road experience.
One of the best things about visiting Lahbab is how easy it is to reach from the city. Although Dubai is known for its iconic skyline, luxury shopping, and beautiful beaches, the Arabian Desert is less than an hour away. You can spend the afternoon exploring the city and still arrive in time to watch the sunset over the red dunes before enjoying dinner at a traditional desert camp.Your driver deflates the tyres the moment you arrive. Lower pressure means more surface contact, allowing the Toyota Land Cruiser 4×4 to climb steep dunes and descend soft slopes with better control.. Then it's twenty-some minutes of climbs, drops, and sideways slides through the red dunes. There's that moment right before the first big drop — everyone in the vehicle goes quiet for a second, then the laughing starts. It's rougher than it looks in photos. Seatbelts stay on the whole time, vehicles are inspected to UAE safety standards, and every driver is licensed for off-road desert work — not just a regular UAE license.
If you get carsick easily, eat light beforehand and say something to your driver before the session starts
Before camp, Your Toyota Land Cruiser stops at a scenic viewpoint for 15 to 20 minutes. Watching the sun disappear behind the red dunes, with that first cool breeze hitting after a hot day — it's the moment most guests end up posting from. Red sand plus low evening light is a combination you don't get anywhere else in the city. Bring your phone charged. People burn through battery here.
At camp, you're welcomed with Arabic coffee (qahwa), dates, and mint tea — standard Bedouin hospitality, not a tourist add-on. The energy shifts here — the dune bashing rush settles into something slower, lanterns coming on as the sky goes from orange to dark blue. The camp has a seating lounge, a shisha area, and open activity zones shared across the whole group. You'll get a camel ride, sandboarding on the red dunes, henna painting if you want it, and a spot for Arabic costume photos — all included in your AED 180. Want more speed? Quad bikes and dune buggies are available right at camp, paid separately on-site (full breakdown in Includes/Excludes below). If you'd rather spend a whole morning on camel riding or sandboarding without the evening crowd, our standalone Camel Riding Experience runs separately.
Dinner is outdoors, under the open sky, buffet-style. There's something about eating grilled food with the sand still warm underfoot and stars actually visible — no city glow washing them out — that doesn't translate to a photo. The spread:
During Ramadan or UAE public holidays, the lineup can shift. Message us before booking if the entertainment is the main reason you're going.
Drop-off runs 9:00 PM to 9:30 PM, back at your hotel or residence. Six hours, start to finish.
This is our shared Red Dune Desert Safari—the option most travellers choose when looking for an affordable evening desert safari in Dubai. You get the complete experience, including thrilling dune bashing, a camel ride, sandboarding, live entertainment, and a BBQ buffet dinner, all without the higher cost of a private vehicle. It's one of the best-value desert safari experiences in Dubai, making it a popular choice for couples, families, solo travellers, and small groups. If you'd like to continue exploring Dubai after your desert adventure, consider pairing it with a Dhow Cruise Dinner on another evening or adding a Quad Bike Tour or Dune Buggy Experience for even more excitement. If you prefer an exclusive vehicle for your family or group, our Private Desert Safari Dubai offers the same desert route with a dedicated Toyota Land Cruiser and a more personalised experience.Wear light, breathable clothing and closed shoes — sand gets everywhere, and flip-flops won't survive dune bashing. Cotton or linen works better than synthetic fabric, which traps heat. A light jacket or shawl is worth packing for after sunset; desert temperatures drop fast once the sun's gone, even in summer. Sunglasses help during the daylight portion, and sunscreen matters more than people expect in October through April when the safari overlaps with full daylight hours.
Summer (June through September) means daytime heat regularly above 40°C, though the dune bashing and camp portions happen as the sun is setting, so it's more bearable than a midday desert walk would be. Winter months (November through March) are genuinely pleasant — expect 20-25°C in the evening, dropping further once it's dark.
Dune bashing is rough. It's not a smooth drive with a view — it's sharp drops and fast direction changes for roughly 20-30 minutes. Pregnant women, anyone with a recent back, neck, or spine injury, and people with heart conditions should skip dune bashing or book a private tour where the pace can be adjusted. If you're prone to motion sickness, tell your driver before the session starts — most are happy to ease off if asked early, but can't do much mid-bash.
Camel rides and sandboarding are low-risk and fine for most ages and fitness levels. The desert camp itself has flat ground, seating, and washroom facilities, so the camp half of the evening is accessible to almost anyone.
Your driver picks you up from your hotel or residence in Dubai or Sharjah in a shared Toyota Land Cruiser 4×4. Relax as you travel towards the famous Lahbab Desert.

Our desert safari trip was honestly the best day ever! The dune bashing in the 4×4 car was totally insane and felt like a giant rollercoaster. We got to see a beautiful sunset over the sand, and I loved trying sandboarding down the big hills. Later at the camp, the BBQ dinner was delicious and the live fire dancers were so cool. You should definitely go because it is an amazing experience!
